Two U.S. Navy sailors who died in a serious crash on Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton have been identified by military officials.

Stephen Jermaine Williams, 37, and Jess Lee Davis, 38, were named as the motorcyclists involved in the pile-up. They were both highly decorated and had served in San Diego during their military careers.

Another person, a civilian, also died in the crash, and their identity hasn’t been released yet. Five others were injured, and details about them haven’t been disclosed.

The Navy expressed sorrow over the loss of their two sailors, offering condolences to their families, friends, and colleagues. Williams, originally from Texas, served as a Damage Controlman 1st Class and had received several awards since joining in 2006.

Davis, originally from Tennessee and serving as a Culinary Specialist Submarines 1st Class, enlisted in 2005 and had earned commendations during his career.

The crash, involving two cars and four motorcycles, occurred early morning and led to a closure of southbound I-5 for several hours. The investigation into the cause of the collision is ongoing, including whether drugs or alcohol were factors.
