Two people got hurt in a small plane crash near Modesto Airport on Sunday. The crash happened around 12:44 p.m. Airport staff called Stanislaus Regional 911 for help after the crash, according to Sgt. Luke Schwartz from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.
Before the crash, the pilot said over the radio that the plane was low on fuel and planned to land in a field. The field was near South Santa Fe Avenue and South Avenue in Empire.
Another plane heading to the airport saw the crash site and told the airport tower about it. Then, firefighters and medical teams went to help.
The crashed plane is a North American T-6. Both the pilot (a man) and the passenger (a woman) were outside the plane when the emergency teams arrived.
Sgt. Schwartz said they don’t know what caused the crash yet. They’re investigating it.
