A 19-year-old woman is in trouble with the law after police say she was drunk and caused a deadly car crash in north Phoenix on Friday.
Madison Carey was released from the hospital and arrested on charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault, according to police.
The crash occurred around 8:30 p.m.
Police reported that Carey was driving west on Pinnacle Peak Road near 56th Street when she veered off the road into bushes and palo verde trees.
She then returned to the road, crossed into the opposite lane, and crashed into a Toyota Corolla carrying five people.
The impact caused a fire, which Phoenix firefighters later extinguished.
All six people involved were taken to the hospital.
Juliene Aumani, aged 53 and a passenger in the Corolla, died at the hospital.
Another passenger in the Corolla was seriously injured but is expected to recover.
The other three passengers are in stable condition.
Carey was initially treated at the hospital but was later released and taken into police custody.
