Five young people led police on a fast car chase through the South Bay area on Thursday afternoon. They eventually left the car in the middle of a street in Hawthorne and ran into an apartment building on foot.

During the chase, they drove on streets and the 110 Freeway until they left the freeway and abandoned the car in a residential neighborhood.

Around 1 p.m., the driver and passengers got out of the Kia Soul near 129th Street and Jefferson Avenue and ran away.

Sheriff’s deputies followed them into the area and surrounded it while a police helicopter flew above.

A search followed, and by 3 p.m., all five suspects were caught, according to a spokesperson from the sheriff’s office speaking to ABC7.

Information about when and where the car was stolen was not immediately provided.
