A 43-year-old man going to evening prayers at a mosque in Philadelphia was shot multiple times and killed on Tuesday. Police say it was a targeted killing.
The shooter is still on the run, and the motive is unknown.
Police arrived at the scene on Germantown Avenue around 5 p.m. They found the man in the mosque’s parking lot with multiple gunshot wounds, including to his chest and head. He was taken to the hospital but was pronounced dead.
The shooter, dressed in dark clothes, ran away and got into a car. Surveillance footage shows the shooter approaching the victim from behind and firing shots at close range. The victim was clearly targeted, as the shooter continued firing even after he fell.
The victim’s name hasn’t been released, and his companion was not hurt. Police found 17 shell casings from a large-caliber gun at the scene.
The suspect’s car is thought to be a dark-colored sedan with a donut tire on the right front. Police are checking other surveillance footage and have talked to witnesses.
There is a $20,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
