The Los Angeles County District Attorney has filed murder charges against a man from Palmdale for allegedly killing his 3-week-old son.

The District Attorney, George Gascón, expressed sympathy to the family of the baby and condemned the senseless violence. He emphasized that child abuse is unacceptable and every child deserves safety and protection.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that the baby, named Baki, was last seen with his father, Yusuf Dewees. Dewees and the baby’s mother were arrested by the Ogden Police Department in Utah for different reasons.

According to the District Attorney, Dewees is accused of murdering his child between May 2 and May 3. Despite an extensive search of the local landfill, Baki’s remains were not found.

Dewees faces several charges, including murder, assault on a child causing death, and child abuse likely to cause serious injury or death. If convicted, he could be sentenced to life in prison.

The baby’s great-grandmother mentioned that Baki had been staying at her daughter’s home in Palmdale, along with his grandmother and two of his siblings.

Prosecutors have recommended that Dewees be held on a $2 million bail.
