A mother from New Jersey has been accused of murdering her two young children by drowning them in a bathtub. Naomi Elkins, 27, is facing charges including murder and possession of a weapon.
The tragic incident occurred at her home in Lakewood, south of Newark, where police responded to a report of her children in cardiac arrest on Tuesday evening.
Emergency crews attempted to save the children, ages three and one, but unfortunately, both passed away at the scene. Officers also found the younger child with stab wounds. Elkins, who is married and holds a master’s degree, is now held without bail. Her legal proceedings include a hearing scheduled for Wednesday afternoon and a detention hearing on Monday morning.
In a separate incident last week in New Haven, Connecticut, a father was arrested for attempting to drown his children in the Long Island Sound. Fortunately, a police officer intervened upon hearing screams and rescued the children, who have since been discharged from the hospital.
