A woman in Miami was arrested for an armed robbery at Mercy Supermarket. According to the report, on June 18, Sheina Reyes, 36, knocked on the locked front door of the market on Biscayne Blvd. A clerk opened the door for her, and two masked burglars entered, pushing the clerk behind the counter.
One burglar held the clerk at gunpoint while the other stole money from the cash register and lottery tickets from a back room. The clerk was hit on the head with the gun several times but fortunately was not shot.
Another clerk, Asad Hossain, expressed concern about the incident, mentioning that the clerk involved had been targeted before in his seven years of working there. Hossain said he didn’t want to continue working there because of safety concerns.
The thieves took the money and left the store. The clerk got help from a passerby who called the police. The clerk mentioned to the police that the robbers had been in the store earlier that day but had not taken anything.
CCTV footage showed Reyes walking to the store with the two other thieves, who hid in darkness next to the door while Reyes knocked. More footage showed Reyes walking to the store earlier that day with two masked individuals who entered the store briefly and then left without buying anything.
Based on the surveillance footage, it was clear that Reyes helped the two unidentified individuals get into the store to commit the robbery.
Police found out through surveillance footage that the car involved in the robbery was a gray 2006-2011 Honda Civic with a temporary tag. They located a similar car and pulled it over, discovering that it was not registered. The car was towed, and Reyes was taken into custody for traffic offenses and further questioning.
Reyes faces four charges: armed robbery, burglary with assault or battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, and failure to have a vehicle registration. She is currently held without bond.
