The police are looking for the driver who hit a family of four and a 13-year-old boy on his bike in Chicago’s North Side on Wednesday, according to Chicago police.
A new video shows a light blue car speeding down an alley in Rogers Park near Jonquil Terrace and Marshfield. The mother of the boy who was biking is speaking out.
The accident happened just after 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Sources tell ABC7 that Chicago police were trying to stop the car.
People who saw the crash said it was very loud and could be heard from far away.
One witness, Brian Iverson, said the car was going at least 70 miles per hour and hit the other car without warning.
The video is shocking, but everyone involved only had minor injuries and left the hospital soon after.
The video shows no police chase. Instead, it shows the car waiting for the police to pass before speeding down the alley.
The car then crashed into a van with a family of four inside. The parents are in their 40s, and their kids are 7 and 10 years old, according to the police.
The video also shows the car hitting a boy on a bike before crashing into a fence. The 13-year-old boy was able to run away with minor injuries. The driver of the car ran away after the crash.
A witness, Iverson, said he saw the boy get hit but thought he was okay because he got up and ran. However, the boy later sat down about a block away, scared and trying to find his mother.
The mother of the boy on the bike thought she had lost her son when she heard the crash. But she was relieved when she found out he only had minor injuries and didn’t have any broken bones.
The suspect can be seen running away from the car in the video. The mother of the boy on the bike said the suspect needs to be caught because the crash was serious and could have killed someone.
People who helped after the crash were focused on getting the kids out of the car. No one has been arrested yet. The police are still investigating.
