Police say that over the weekend, a man from Monroe County was badly hurt when he drove his golf cart into an intersection and was hit by a car.

The accident happened on South Dixie Highway at East Stein Road in La Salle Township at 8:50 p.m. on Saturday, according to the police.

A preliminary investigation shows that a 65-year-old man was driving a green E-Z-Go golf cart west on East Stein at South Dixie Highway when he didn’t give way to the driver going north on the highway. The driver then continued into the intersection and was hit by a blue 2011 Ford Escape.

Police found out that the driver of the golf cart was Bart Flory from La Salle. They found out that the Escape’s driver was 39-year-old LaSalle Township resident Sarah Straub.

Investigators say Flory was thrown out of the cart during the crash and was seriously hurt. He was taken to a Toledo hospital and is said to be in very bad shape there.

They said the driver of the SUV was wearing her seat belt, her car’s air bags did not go off, and she was not hurt in the crash.

Police also said it looks like drinking played a role in the accident.

The investigation is still going on, and anyone with information about the crash should call Deputy Austin Graham of the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office at (734) 240-7758 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK-UP.
