A SWAT team was called to a Circle K gas station in SouthPark, Charlotte, on Monday morning because someone inside the store was having a mental health crisis, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD). One person was taken into custody.

A Channel 9 crew saw the SWAT team at the gas station at Sharon and Fairview roads. CMPD announced around 7:30 a.m. that roads were closed due to the incident and believed the person was alone in the store.

Drivers were advised to avoid Sharon Road near SouthPark Mall, as the southbound lanes were blocked, and the westbound lanes of Fairview Road were also blocked.

The police managed to keep the situation contained within the Circle K store and worked to resolve it safely.

Around 11:10 a.m., Channel 9’s Eli Brand saw a man being taken into custody and officers packing up to leave. CMPD later confirmed that the situation ended peacefully, and the person in crisis was taken to a hospital for evaluation. They were not injured.

The roads reopened around 11:30 a.m.
