Following a public hearing that didn’t include any public comments, the Smithville Board of Aldermen gave preliminary approval to a proposal to keep the city’s property tax rate at 45 cents per $100 of assessed valuation.

Smithville Park Board members elected new officers, approved use of baseball outfields and announced research results for an off-leash dog park proposal during its July 13 meeting.

Board members must elect a chairperson and vice chairperson every two years. However, the board members who are officers of the three sports leagues can’t serve, according to the bylaws.
