Because of meeting procedure issues, the Smithville Board of Aldermen postponed discussion and possible action on two issues: whether to hire an independent investigator to determine what led to the water boil order and whether to give city water customers discounts.

The Smithville Area Fire Protection District and Smithville R-II School District have upped their annual property tax rates in an effort to keep revenue constant amid declining property values. However, the Smithville Board of Aldermen does not intend to increase the city’s tax rate.

As part of the Missouri Department of Transportation’s Minor Roads Initiative, MoDOT has completed about one-third of more than 350 miles of lettered and numbered roads scheduled for improvement in this district, according to Beth Wright, district engineer for MoDOT.
