Smithville’s Movie Gallery is closing.

Tuesday, Feb. 2, Movie Gallery Inc. announced the immediate liquidation and closure of the Smithville store as well as about 760 Movie Gallery, Hollywood Video and Game Crazy stores nationwide.

A Smithville Movie Gallery employee who answered the store’s phone Thursday, Feb. 4, said the store will close within the next one to two months.

The company announced the closures in connection with a Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing.

According to a Movie Gallery press release, stores slated for closure are not profitable. Funds from liquidation will help the company move forward, the release said.

More information, including customer information, can be found at www.moviegallery.com.
